You Can Now Pay For Starbucks With Square

hero 1 You Can Now Pay For Starbucks With Square

Remember how Starbucks dropped $25 million on Square? The first stage of that partnership has now kicked in, and you can pay for your daily frappuccino by using Square Wallet at 7,000 Starbucks stores.

Unlike the Starbucks app, Square Wallet is tied directly to your credit or debit card, so there’s no need to top up your funds when you’re running low — the money will just come directly from your plastic.

The Starbucks Digital Network in Starbucks stores will also now feature a Square directory, guiding people to nearby businesses that will let you use the app.

What’s not clear right now is how this will hit your Starbucks Rewards, for those of you who are dedicated customers. A FAQ from earlier this year seems to indicate that linking the two might be in the works, but not for a while:

ZH: At this time, Pay with Square will be a separate payment option from the Starbucks mobile payment applications, which are integrated with the My Starbucks Rewards program. Our goal is to eventually integrate My Starbucks Rewards into the Pay with Square payment option.
