Rumors of a smaller 7 plus inch iPad are gaining steam, with the Wall Street Journal now citing two sources ‘familiar with the situation’. They allege that Apple’s component suppliers in Asia are preparing for mass production of a new tablet that will start in September.
The device would be smaller then 8-inches. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber suspects that if Apple were to go this route, they could use the same displays used by the iPhone 3GS, but cut them for the new iPad mini or whatever it ends up being called. He adds that developers wouldn’t have to target a new device.
These latest rumors echo what we had heard yesterday from Bloomberg and in early February from iMore.
Nexus 7 or iPad mini?
