Will Apple Fall Afoul Of EU Antitrust Regulations?

Europe has a much stronger set of rules on antitrust issues than the USA, and Apple might just be on the wrong side of them, says Rethink Wireless. The EU is currently looking at a major change in the way they define antitrust, and market abuse, they want to reduce how big a company is in order to fall in those sections. Instead of requiring that the corp be “dominant” in the market, they’re mooting changing it to just being “significant”.

EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes is rumored to launch a probe into interoperability between mobile phone platforms, and specifically named the App Store as an example of a “closed environment”.

While the App Store is very restrictive, I wonder if Apple has a back door with the whole Web App thing. Not many people make them, but it’s completely un-policed by Apple, and anyone can make one with any content type, allowing for apps that would never get to the App Store to still be used.
