Where’s Ping’s Facebook Integration?

Screen shot 2010 09 02 at 7.56.54 AM Wheres Pings Facebook Integration?

Like every other Apple addict on the planet, as soon as I downloaded iTunes 10, I fired up Ping to have a look around. It’s deserted, and there’s no easy way for me to link up with my friends, other than spamming their email, or individually entering every name of a person I can think of. Admittedly, it’s still less than 12 hours after launch, so not everyone’s on board yet, but it’s still missing a lot of what a good social network needs.

When I signed up for Ping, I received an email from Apple that said I could connect Ping to Facebook, a feature that I see nowhere in iTunes.

Apparently there were talks between Apple and Facebook, but they didn’t go anywhere.

Other major problems that have popped up: you can’t like songs in your library, only through the iTunes store. Even though Apple has my entire song collection on hand, it doesn’t recommend artists to follow.

On the plus side, iTunes 10 is feeling pretty light on its feet, and now has individual volume controls when using AirTunes to broadcast to multiple speakers.

Yeah i noticed this. Maybe jobs had 10.1.0 or something. The facebook/twitter integration seems to be pretty easy. Must be waiting to see how it copes without all that for the first few weeks.

I actually did see Ping prompt me when I first registered to find friends via my Facebook, but I didn’t really want to add another application to my Facebook, thus closing the window. I haven’t seen the option since then.

  3. I also remembered seeing it. I used it, but it didn’t find any of my FB friends who were on Ping yet (no surprise there). Now I also can’t seem to find it anywhere. It doesn’t make sense building that kind of functionality and only expose it upon first login. I’m sure it’s hidden somewhere in a weird menu.

When I first registered, it definitely didn’t show me the Facebook options, so it must be time dependent, as I didn’t try until this morning.

I just set up Ping and that statement has since been removed from the email. I agree though, it’s a ghost town there. There’s lots of potential so we’ll see what happens.
