Verizon’s Droid X “Hold Any Way You Like” Ad Slams iPhone 4

Verizon today took out a full page ad today in the NY Times touting it’s soon-to-be released Droid X that’s coming July 15th. The ad provides an overview of the various specifications of the Droid X, but if you look closely there’s some clear last minute copyrighting at work here. If you look at the photo of the Droid X, there isn’t one mention of it’s “double antenna design“. Despite it not being important enough to be mentioned amongst the roughly 8-10 features, it’s highlighted in the sparce copy below the image.

“And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

Apple has yet to get a handle on the antenna issue and now it’s the most important feature on the Droid X. Can someone say marketing opportunist? Expect more of this if we don’t get a proper resolution to the antenna debacle. We have to wonder how Verizon would feel about Apple’s double antenna design if it were to be available next January.

Verizon is full of advertising idiots. For a company that wants to get the iPhone so bad, they sure do slam it every chance they get…

    • Oogabooga says:

GSXR, Verizon doesn’t want the iPhone. They have said it many times. We have been hearing false rumors for years that VZ was getting their own iPhone. It’s not going to happen.

      This ad is marketing GENIUS.

Everywhere I go in public, whoever sees my phone always asks how the reception is… any problems with the antenna… yadda yadda yadda. Even among my non-techie friends who still have flip phones with basic features. Apple has screwed this up ROYALLY.

    • dbnII says:

Umm…its called going after your biggest competitor, you marketing genius you…until they do get the incredibly popular iphone of course they will.. I can tell you have no clue on marketing yourself.

I held off to wait for the white iphone 4. I, like many others live and work in a poor AT&T service area and this reception issue may be a big deal for me. If dropped calls and poor quality calls are worse then the 3g then maybe this new Droid is worth checking into. If you can’t have an iPhone for what ever reason this sure looks good.

Plus who can look down on this type of marketing? Bravo Verizon. Hit where it hurts.

While the reception issue IS an issue, it’s still not as bad as many are making it out to be.
The two biggest things people seem to forget is that the reception in general is stronger, and the phone is programed to seek out the CLEANEST signal, which isn’t always the strongest, unfortunately.
The other thing is that the signal indicator is inaccurate and slow to update. Couple that with slow switching from tower to tower and edge to 3G (and back), you have problems, but can be solved with an update to the firmware.
The bridging of antennas is something that can really only be solved by a case, and since most people are going to get one whether it works perfectly or not, that’s not a big deal.
I sincerely doubt verizon will get an iPhone in the next couple years. Their public stance and their current 3G network ( which still cannot handle voice and data together) make them a highly unlikely partner for Apple.

every other phone company in the world doesnt seems to get what is an iphone,

are there phones out there that do more in some aspect than the iphone? yeap they do.
but can they doit in a smooth and easy way AND at the same time look good doing it? nope

a 2 year old can use the iphone,(as proven) can u say the same about any of the many versions of android?

and about this reception,, i dont have a problem what so ever, people keep saying att sucks, maybe they do where they live at, but not here, i never had a drop call and my 3g speeds are good enough,, but to each its own

    • Caleb says:

Youre an iPhone fanboy who, like so many of your brethren, will probably go to the end of the world defending the iPhone. You use subjective adjectives like “easy, smooth, good” to define the iPhone while not exhibiting any real world evidence. In fact, you probably don’t even own an iPhone, but supporting it in some random message board somewhere makes you feel like you know a thing or two about it. But hey – who am I to complain – if it makes you happy, at least try to contribute something objective about the topic.

Oh, and not to be nit-picky but what 2 year old needs to use an iPhone?

  5. AK says:

People i just held my mums Nokia and guess what the reception dropped, you people are just over doing this situation because apple told you that they redesigned where the antenna was. Apple dont care how many people own an iphone but who owns an iphone. it was never there intention for half the world to own one, do me a favour on any phone cover the phone in a grip hand and see if the reception drops which it will. the htc isnt a very smooth phone and i watched a review today saying it had 40 000 colours or some bullshit the iphone 4 has alot more and this can be seen quite easily, the camera on the iphone 4 is a 5 megapizel compared to androids 8 megapixel and the iphone 4 turned out to be a better and clearer photo. The scroll and movement of the screen was no where near as smooth as the iphone. So to tell you the truth the iphone 4 is a bloody good phone if your having a problem with reception its your networks fault not your phone if it was the phones fault then everyone that ever bought a phone should get a refund every phone has reception issues and dropped call issues so get over it.
