There have been no shortage of rumors surrounding Verizon and the iPhone. Since the iPhone’s inception, people have been clamoring for the iPhone to be available on arguably the best network, which is Verizon. Bloomberg is reporting that according to “two people familiar with the plans”, Verizon will start selling the iPhone in January.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public.
We’re often skeptical of Verizon iPhone rumors, but this one is coming from Bloomberg? How about you? Do you think there is any validity to this story? Is the iPhone finally destined for Big Red?

Back when Verizon (mci) took over our business network here at my offices HQ, I have spread the speculation that the iPhone was coming to Verizon very soon. I was wrong. And since then, I have hypothesized that of the other big 3 carriers, Verizon would be the LAST one to get the iPhone because they cannot handle 3G Voice and Data, Plus the iPhone 4 is running even fast than the 3Gs.
Verizon might have the footprint for coverage, but they don’t have the network to deliver…YET.
The most likely candidate would be T-Mobile because Apple is already partnered with them over-seas, they run on a GSM Network already, and beyond a little tweaking to what signal to tune in, there are no hardware changes.
Is it possible that it will be Verizon? Anything is possible. Will it happen? probably not.
Why are 2 people reporting that it’s coming? No idea, but I was TOLD it was coming back in September by 2 different people, one of them was the Verizon rep that works in our building. Didn’t happen, don’t expect it to either- now or then.
Well said hawk, I don’t see that happening for at least another two years.
