According to iSuppli, Apple has managed to shave down the cost of building the Verizon iPhone 4 — all the components cost $171.35, down from $187.51 for AT&T version, and once you include manufacturing costs, the CMDA version is $178.45 to build.
Some of this price drop is due to a lowering in cost of components which are common to both versions, but others are due to changes — like the Qualcomm baseband chip, which has a built-in GPS receiver, removing the need for an additional unit, or a smaller, cheaper WiFi chip.
The trouble prone antenna has been redesigned, “Apple has decided to isolate the Bluetooth/WLAN antenna from the enclosure/antenna assembly,” said Wayne Lam, senior analyst, which should prevent the much discussed death grip — unless you hold it in a ludicrous manner.

That’s very interesting since the Verizon iPhone off contract cost $50 more than the off contract At&T version. Slight price gouging?
