Apple and Time have been arguing over subscriptions since 2010, which lead to the weird world of paper subscribers getting digital versions — but leaving it difficult to obtain digital versions only. Now, finally, after years of wrangling a compromise has been met.
Up until now, it wasn’t possible to purchase a subscription from inside the app, instead requiring paper subscribers to login, or else buy each issue individually. It’s thought Time didn’t want to give up the 30% cut Apple took, nor were they too happy about losing the detailed subscriber information they were used to.
It’s not known what triggered the change, but it’s a welcome shift to readers who are interested in the dozens of magazines in Time’s portfolio.
