Tim Cook Hints At Low-Cost iPhone

The rumors of a low-cost iPhone keep popping up, and comments by Apple’s COO Tim Cook have added fuel to the fire. While it’s not known what form it might take — reduced capabilities, smaller form factor, or something else entirely. In an interview with Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi, Cook said that Apple is targeting the prepaid market, as they want the iPhone to not just be “for the rich.” He also conceded that ”price is big factor in the prepaid market.”

    All they would have to do to get it started is set up a trade in program, reman the used phones and sell them unlocked at a new low price.

    $50 for an iPhone 3GS sounds pretty cheap to me… That’s what AT&T are offering them for now, granted it is with a 2 year contract, but the cost is low.
