This just in, dropping the iPhone 4 can cause damage

Usually within an hour of a new iPhone release, we get the ubiquitous tear down from a repair site. In return for ripping the new iPhone apart, they receive a bundles of links from those who look on in horror. This generates awareness for their site and ultimately business. Not waiting to get caught up in the rush, the fine folks at IFixYourI have taken the time to assemble a faux-iPhone 4 sans processor and dropped it four times. The glass on the iPhone 4 didn’t shatter on the first three drops, but the fourth time resulted in shattered glass. They dropped the iPhone 4 from 3.5 ft up, but didn’t elaborate on whether it was dropped on a shag carpet or concrete. We’re betting on concrete.

The site claims that Apple’s claims regarding the glass being 30 times stronger doesn’t hold much weight in the real world.  It might be stronger while bending the glass, but people don’t bend glass in their pocket.

“It may bend more, but can it handle shock and sudden impact, that is the real question. That is what causes 95% of glass shattering. Not because you bent the glass in your pocket, not because you dropped it and it bent, but really because of sudden impact.”

What’s the takeaway? Don’t drop the new iPhone or pick up a case that will offer suitable protection against drops. Any phone when dropped repeatedly will break. In a related story, the iPhone 4 ultimately will blend and also damage the glass on the new iPhone.

Jeez I hate reading these illiterate reviews. What writer could seriously say “to it’s parts” and “faired perfectly”. Back to English 101!

  2. This was a review?

Glass dropped on the ground breaks… After 3rd drop. Yeah, and? Its glass, i thought it faired well being that it took 3 drops to break. I have dropped two iPhones and both have shattered on the first drop. This sounds like an improvement to me.
