We’ve touched on all manner of knockoffs and third party attempts to replicate the Lightning cable and accessories here, but now we’re finally starting to see the official versions of all of these devices. That’s right, the first round of Apple sanctioned, third party, Lightning accessories have been announced — and they’re from Belkin.
Belkin has two items up for sale, neither of which is particularly exciting. There’s a car charger for $29.99, which has a built-in Lightning cable. Or, you could use a generic USB cable, and plug a normal Lightning cable directly into that.
The second device is the Charge + Sync Dock with EarPods Port, which will also set you back $29.99, but doesn’t directly feature a Lightning cable — instead you have to feed your own cable into the dock. The dock is apparently case compatible — but I’m guessing that’ll depend on the case — and if you want to keep listening on your headphones while you charge, you can flip up an AUX jack on the dock, and then plug your headphones in to the back of the charger.
Both devices are available for pre-order now, and will ship later this month. Like I said, neither is astonishingly interesting, but this marks the arrival of the first Apple approved, third party, Lightning accessories. Here’s hoping we’ll see a lot more before the holiday season.
