Piracy continues to be a problem with iOS and developers really don’t have much in the way or recourse, or do they. A new release of Tweetbot, which owns the distinction of being named the best Twitter app, is able to detect when someone is using an illegal or pirated copy.
The app creates a suggested post that reads, “I’ve been demoing a pirated copy of @tweetbot and really like it so I’m going to buy a copy!”
It’s not automatically tweeted. According to Mark Jardine, “All it does is compose the message. Not our fault if the user tweets it.”
Funny thing is that Twitter is filled with those who have used unscrupulous methods to download the app.
Good on Tapbots for having some fun. In all seriousness, piracy remains a problem and it’s unfortunate that folks don’t support quality software. It’s also a black-eye for the jailbreak community, who for the most part, are not ripping off developers.
