Among the apps that saw big changes in iOS 8, Messages might be near the top of the list. For one, it will be one of the apps who will benefit greatly from the new interactive notifications. Users will be able to reply to text messages from the lock screen, a feature which sherlocks BiteSMS, one of the more popular apps amongst jailbreakers. But inside the Messages apps is even more exciting, with new features that borrow from popular messaging apps WhatsApp and SnapChat. Whether you are familiar with either of those apps, you will find the new features to […]
If you watched the live stream of Apple’s WWDC today, you noted the speed at which features were announced. The entire two plus hour event was fast and furious. When you announce major software updates for mobile and desktop, each with hundreds of new features, stuff gets lost in the mix. Luckily, Apple knows this and their yearly inclusion of this slide helps us narrow down some of the iOS 8 features that were not announced today during the keynote.
It’s been almost two years since Apple took over the Maps app. It’s been a bumpy road and at times, the wrong road. If operating systems had resumes, iOS wouldn’t include this among its bullet point list of achievements. Great companies make bad choices and thankfully, iOS users had plenty of choices when it came to third party map applications, as pointed out by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook. The iPhone has always come with a select group of stock apps and the app creep could continue with iOS 8. Instead of a pure UI makeover with iOS 7, some of stock […]
In advance of the iOS 8 release, it’s fun to speculate on what Apple may include in the update coming sometime later this year. Apple is hard at work and we’ve seen a number of iOS 8 rumors that point to improvements to Maps, mysterious new apps appear in screenshots and a possibly massive move into health and fitness tracking with Healthbook. With each new update, Apple continues to improve Siri and this year we’ll likely see more of the same. So what’s on my iOS 8 Wishlist for Siri?
I use my iPhone 5s in the car each and every day. It’s mounted on an iOttie to the right of my steering wheel. Like many of you, my app usage in the car is typical. I use Google Maps for navigation, Music (Beats Music) for tunes, Phone for calling and Messages for reading or sending text messages. My iPhone is within arms length, but I only use Maps when driving and that’s only within navigation. If I need to enter an address, I use Siri. For the other apps, I wait until I’m not moving, either at a stop […]
Ask a few people for their thoughts about iOS 7 and you’re bound to get a range of responses. Some people absolutely love the changes, while for some it’s a mixed bag. Others are desperate to find a way to go back to iOS 6. The last group is in the most trouble, since Apple offers no way to revert from iOS 7 to iOS 6. The people who are unhappy with a product are always the most vocal and iOS 7 is no different. When changes are made to any beloved product, there will be dissenters, those who are […]
