New HTC Phones Delayed In Customs Due To Previous Apple Patent Infringement

HTC sent out a short note to media outlets last night informing them of delays to shipments of the HTC One X for AT&T and the HTC 4G LTE for Sprint. The delay is related to a case last year where HTC was found to be guilty of patent infringement related to the iPhone. The result of which had the US International Trade Commission ruling that all future phones found in violation to be block from entering the US. HTC for their part believe they have a software workaround that no longer violates Apple's patents. This was implemented in both of these phones. HTC America's acting president Martin Fichter has managed to make a statement so baffling that the very mind itself boggles. As GeekWire reports, Fichter talked at the Mobile Future Forward conference, and had this to say about "cool" phones: "I brought my daughter back to college — she’s down in Portland at Reed — and I talked to a few of the kids on her floor. Analyst Eightball: HTC Lawsuit A Warning To Other Manufacturers

Analyst Yair Reiner of Oppenheimer issued a report today, essentially saying that Apple's suit against HTC was a warning shot to handset manufacturers. According to Reiner: "Starting in January, Apple launched a series of C-Level discussions with tier-1 handset makers to underscore its growing displeasure at seeing its iPhone-related IP [intellectual property] infringed. The lawsuit filed against HTC thus appears to be Apple's way of putting a public, lawyered-up exclamation point on a series of blunt conversations that have been occurring behind closed doors.
