TSMC Begins Shipping Processors To Apple For Use In iPhones, iPads


Apple has taken another step in reducing their reliance on Samsung by starting to accept shipments of processors from chip manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The shipments were part of a deal struck between Apple and TSMC last year, one that ends a reliance on Samsung who had been the single source of chips used in both iPhones and iPads. Report: Samsung To Supply Chips for New iPhones Starting In 2015


Apple has reportedly entered into a contract agreement with Samsung who will supply next generation A9 chips for new iPhones produced in mid-2015. The two companies have had a contentious relationship with an array of patent related courtroom battles. Last year Apple reportedly moved to TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) as the chip supplier for the A6 used in the iPhone 5, in a splintering of the relationship between these two companies.
