Sprint Won’t Charge For FaceTime Over 3G

We’re still waiting to hear if AT&T will or won’t charge you extra to run FaceTime over 3G, but Sprint has already come out saying that it’s definitely not going to. Talking to the WSJ, a Sprint spokesperson said “we are committed to our unlimited data, and that means not charging for data consumption based on the application.”

Verizon is as of yet still being cagey on the matter, saying “The timing of any pricing conversations related to future versions of iOS is premature.”

So, the big two aren’t really saying one way or the other, but Sprint is definitely will not. Seems a good way to win over some customer affection (even though I can’t see people using FaceTime over 3G that much).

I already use FT over 3G quite often. My job sometimes requires me to work nights and there’s no wifi here. With FT over 3G, I wouldn’t get to tell my 3-yr old good night. Well, I could always call but FT is so much better. I’d much rather see her and have her see me. If they charge, I hope it’s still available for the bubble through the JB. If not, it might be time to switch providers.

  2. Like Rowan said if you have Tango already this is not really a big deal. Rarely use Tango that often anyway.

  3. I think that in conjunction with Sprint’s piss poor slow 3G speeds and charging for these services, they’d end up making people leave Sprint.
