Sprint will be the second wireless carrier to offer a pay-as-you go iPhone reports the Wall Street Journal. The company will offer the pre-paid iPhone plans under the Virgin Mobile brand. This makes the second carrier offering these types of plans, with Leap Wireless announcing similar plans under Cricket Wireless starting on June 22nd. Virgin Mobile is said to begin sales of the iPhone by July 1st.
While pricing under Cricket is set at $55 per month, pricing on Virgin Mobile is still yet underdetermined. Also unclear is whether Sprint will offer the iPhone under the Boost Mobile brand. Sprint’s prepaid service has been an area of growth for the company, adding 489,000 paying customers.
Virgin Mobile has a much broader market than Cricket, offering increased availability. This move would also help Sprint satisfy their commitment to Apple to purchase $15.5 billion in phones over the next four years.
