Skype Updated For Multitasking

878510 2 Skype Updated For Multitasking

Skype (iTunes link) has just pushed through a significant update, bringing the app multitasking functionality compatible with iOS 4. Here’s an official description of what’s new:

Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

However, it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Skype is still moving forward with a plan to charge for using the product over 3G. Like the app description says, “It’s completely free to call people on Skype over WiFi, and free on 3G until the end of 2010.”

I already checked that, but I think I figure it out… this vervison wont work on jailbroken Iphones.. now I understand why skype took too long to release this update….. nice one skype….

  6. Sherryl says:

Rumor has it that they are not going through with the charge for using 3G.

    • Jaspal says:

Rumors, or wishful thinking? Anyway why are they thinking of charging anyway? Yes it uses up O2′s 3G bandwidth, but this doesn’t affect Skype. Maybe O2 wants reputations?

  7. Ron Heller says:

When will Skype provide for Desktop to iPhone 4 video conferencing? Perhaps Apple does not want competition with Face Time.
