Using Siri To Add Reminders

There are different types of reminders that Siri can handle. One function of the Reminders app is for simple reminders. These are the type which aren’t tied to a specific list. Mundane things like “Remind me to call Mom.” fall into this category, but they can also be extremely important, yet not fall into a specific category. Siri excels at these sorts of reminders, which can also be date or time based. When you make the request, be sure to set a specific time or date if you want an active notification. Otherwise, Siri will add it to your list, but it will require you check that list.

    1. Press and hold the home button to bring up Siri.
    2. Ask Siri, “Remind me {insert request} | tomorrow | specific time.”
    3. Siri will create a draft of your reminder, which you’ll need to confirm. Tap Confirm.

Siri will add the reminder to the ‘Reminders’ list. If you set a time or date, you’ll be reminded. If you have a Mac setup with the same iCloud account, that reminder will pop up on your iOS devices and your Mac.

Use Siri To Find Lists Or Individual Reminders

I have a confession, I love creating lists. I have multiple shopping lists in Reminders, one for each major retail store. Things I buy at Costco are different from things I buy at Target. This can make tracking down specific reminders a bit difficult, but not with Siri. Using Siri, you can search and find lists or individual reminders.

      1. Press and hold the home button to bring up Siri.
      2. Ask Siri, “Find{insert request} reminder.”
      3. Siri let you know how many reminders you have and list them. If you tap on a one, it will launch the app and bring up the associated list.

Use Siri to Update An Existing List

Siri is most useful while on the go, when you can’t dig in and type. (Okay, Siri can still be pretty helpful even when you’ve got your hands free). We’ve covered the basic functions of adding a new reminder, which effectively dumps them into the non-specific Reminders list. If you have existing lists setup, Siri can update your list.

        1. Press and hold the home button to bring up Siri.
        2. Ask Siri, “Add [insert to-do or item] to [name of list].
        3. Siri will create a draft of your reminder, which you’ll need to confirm.

Example: “Add cat food to Target list.”

The Reminders app is fantastic, but the experience is so much better when you use Siri to help you with the management of your reminders. By using these simple phrases, Siri will help you add, find and update reminders and lists. Super charge your reminders by letting Siri do all the heavy lifting.
