We know that the Lightning plug is no longer called a “dock connector”, but does that mean the very concept of a dock is a thing of the past? It looks like it might be, if this email response is actually from Phil Schiller is real.
The email exchange is between a user asking if there’s an official Apple iPhone 5 dock in the works. Phil’s response is brief and to the point:
We do not plan on making a dock for the iPhone 5. Most people who use docks use them with speaker or clock systems.
In other words, you’re going to have to pick one up third party if you want a cradle. However, judging the rapid pace that accessories seem to be churned out, I’m sure you’ll be able to pick up a decent one on the cheap in just about no time at all.
