Earlier this week, Apple and HTC announced that they planned to settle their patent disputes, ushering in an era of cooperation rather than litigation. A number of us hoped that this was the start of a ceasefire in the patent wars, that companies would start to talk about settling their differences rather than just infinite legal battles. Alas, Samsung doesn’t see it that way.
According to AFP, a Samsung exec has said that the company has now plans to follow HTC’s moves, and seek settlement over the legal battles which are now taking place between them and Apple in 10 nations.
“We have no such intention,” J.K. Shin, the head of Samsung Electronics’ mobile unit, told reporters on Wednesday when asked if Samsung would seek a similar settlement.
While Samsung seems to want to ride this out into mutually assured destruction, we can still hope that other smartphone and technology companies might try and stop the bickering.
