Samsung To Stop Selling Screens To Apple?

The Samsung Apple relationship has always been a weird one. While fierce competitors on the smartphone front, Apple has remained chummy with the component manufacturing side of the Korean megacorp, using them for all sorts of parts and internals. However, as the relationship between the companies continues to sour, it looks like a split may be occurring.

Last week we reported that Apple was reducing its reliance on Samsung for chip manufacturing, and a new report has indicated that Samsung is splitting from Apple over LCDs. According to Korea Times:

The display panel manufacturer plans to completely cut its years-long business ties with Apple as it believes its American partner is no longer a cash-generator due to the iPhone maker’s stiffer supply-chain management structure.

Earlier this year, Reuters also reported that Apple was reducing chip numbers from Samsung.

While nothing officially points to animosity between the companies, and all concerned seem to indicate these are purely economic decisions, it’s hard to shake the feeling that the continuing legal action between both companies may have something to do with it.
