According to DigiTimes industry sources, suppliers will begin prepping materials in Q1 2012 for the Apple iTV, with a scheduled release for the yet unannounced Apple Television to take place in either the second or third quarter of next year. They added this product will take the form of a full television set and not the STB (set-top box) format of the current Apple TV.
They reference Korean media reports indicating Samsung has started producing chips for the new iTV and Sharp will be responsible for manufacturing the displays.
The displays of the new iTV sets will focus on 32- and 37-inch sizes initially, noted sources in the supply chain.
DigiTimes refutes their own sources with yet another source that claims Apple will continue with low-cost set-top boxes in 2012.
You get the picture folks, which right now is incredibly fuzzy.
