Digitimes is reporting that Apple is planning on making a 5-7inch version of the iPad, which will go for $400, and be available in Qa 2011:
Apple is reportedly scheduling a smaller 5- to 7-inch version of the iPad that is expected to launch as soon as the first quarter of 2011, according to Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo.
Kuo, citing talks with upstream component sources, said Apple’s smaller-size iPad will be priced below US$400 and will target the highly-portable mobile device market and consumers that focus mainly on reading and do not have a high demand for text input.
Wait, if the iPad is just a giant iPod touch, and then they’re going to make a small version…wait, what? Yeah, I’m not believing this either. The iPad is already on the petite side for a tablet, and I don’t think segmenting the market even further at this juncture would help Apple at all.

If Apple really wants to make a splash with touch screen tech, then they need to bring it to their main line of iMacs.
People would lose their minds if there was a 27″ captive touch screen iMac available. The would just have to re-design the stand so that the bottom of the screen will be on the desk and tilted at a more usable angle. Keyboard and Mouse would still be available. THAT would be worth getting hyped about. (plus it would give HP a HUGE run for their money with their touch screen line of PC’s.)
I see a great demand for a 7 inch ipad … This would be the perfect double din unit for a car. Where an ipod touch is to small and an ipad is to large
good day sir
p.s. hawk no one wants a touch screen imac… you know how tired your arm would be poking at a dang led monitor across your desk..no thanks… MOUSE FTW
@iCafe-
I agree, the sad part about it is that Apple would then start eating into the stereo market. Imagine automakers just install a dock into cars and run their own app on users ipods. Crazy.
Also, i guess i finally understand that latest update to the devteam’s blog a couple of days ago about a smaller ipad, i thought they were pulling my chain.
