Rumor: CDMA iPhone To Come Q4

Digitimes, who have a pretty spotty record on rumors, is stating that Pegatron have received order from Apple for a CDMA iPhone, to ship out in Q4, and the company is looking to get more production orders from Cupertino.

If true, this would doubtless hail a Verizon iPhone, as they employ a CDMA network.

This is the rumor that does not die, and frankly, we’ll need to see some pretty solid more proof before believing that an iPhone for Verizon is a scant 4 or 5 months away.

I’m sure, given the current high tide levels of hatred against AT&T for this weeks monumental poor attempt at organizing pre-orders, more customers than ever would be happy to jump ship.

  1. I don’t see this happening. Verizon is too busy with trying to get their cuurent network to support voice and data at the same time, AND continue preparing for their LTE network, that taking on a phone like the iPhone is not in their best interest.
It’s not in the best interest of Apple either. Make a CDMA phone that will really only be worth it for less than a year for their customers before they will want to go to an LTE version. I see that costing more money than making.
If there will ever be a verizon phone, it will not appear until the 5 year period with ATT is up. The most likely partner for any US carrier is T-Mobile, since they are GSM, and they already have a contract in Europe.

  2. as an employee of a Verizon affiliate, I agree with Hawk. It just doesn’t make business sense.

  3. Look, I’m no fanboy of AT&T but they just got hit with a ten fold increase over the last release. If you are going to practice journalism, be fair.

  4. Maybe sprint. Since they are as well CDMA

  5. BigDave says:

Verizon had their chance and blew it. They didn’t believe in the iPhone or the profit margin Jobs wanted. And T-Mobile’s network is weak. The carriers know the strain the iPhone puts on a network and that’s why they’re not fighting for it. In all fairness to AT&T, they’ve done a fairly good job and are constantly improving their network. As far as the “lackluster” performance they had on pre-orders, what other online product launch of this magnitude can you compare this too? You can’t! So how can you be so sure anyone else could have done better?

  6. Why would Apple do the R&D for a phone that will be a dead technology soon? LTE is the future for Verizon. When Verizon has most of its network LTE and AT&T has rolled out LTE on most of its network then there is a chance but not till then. Reread BigDave’s comment above as he sums up the rest of the reasons. AT&T was hit with huge network usage with each iPhone release. They are finally really beefing up their network. Verizon’s network would have fared no better if they had the iPhone. As far as pre-orders for AT&T, people forget that they were tied into Apple for this if I was told correctly, so it’s not all AT&T’s fault. Imagine 600,000 pre-orders hitting you system in less than 24 hours. Hey, until you can show me better then I’ll complain.
