Our friends at DigiTimes, not content with floating iPad 3 rumors, are claiming that Apple will launch a 7.85-inch iPad in the fourth quarter of 2012. This according to their sources in the supply chain.
Claims of a potential 7.85 iPad mini are founded on the premise that such a device is needed to compete with the 7-inch Kindle Fire and the recent spate of tablet-sized smartphones. Giant phones as I like to call them.
DigiTimes believes Apple will purchase 7.85 inch panels from LG display and AU Optronics.
A 7+ inch iPad isn’t the worst idea, but we’ll need more concrete information before this can pass for anything more than an unsubstantiated rumor.
