The iPhone meets most of my expectations. iPod sounds great, Internet works well on WiFi, but slow on Edge network. Best of all, all the apps are well integrated with each other (e.g., press on the address in your contacts and it comes up on the map app).
HOWEVER, how can Apple release a $600 phone with horrible ear speaker and speaker phone volume? I have owned at least 5+ cell phones over the years, and this is the worst for volume. Any phone MUST overcome the noise of a busy street (e.g., NYC) for a business person. I have the volume all the way up outside and I can barely hear the person speaking. It's better on the headphones, but not by much.
This is very disappointing. Apple did such a great job on everything else, but obviously did not test the unit enough outside (or the testers used the headphones all the time).
What is especially strange is the iPod volume can blow your ears out. So it's not like something is wrong with my headphone jack. Volume all the way up on phone compared to iPod is s huge difference. When I am inside, I still need the volume most of the way up for the phone.
I just hope a software upgrade will fix this problem.
