It works much better than I had even hoped. The touch interface is super responsive, the web and email are very fast (when on a wifi network). The EDGE network is much slower, but at least I was able to check my email in the middle of nowhere yesterday. That could not happen on 3G at this time.

The iPod really is the best iPod they made. In many ways, it makes me question whether the current "big" iPods are really that great. Movies on the iPhone are amazing on the larger screen. The phone quality with ATT is much better than I expected, even in relatively remote areas. (I know of others with ATT-based reception problems, however.)

The mapping feature is quite useful in the week that I've had it. I can also type quite fast on it (I'm a male who wears a size 9 wedding ring.) The feature I use most has been email. The screen makes it very easy to read the emails if you have decent eyesight (I'm 35 and nearsighted without glasses.)

The internet is very useful. I can do anything on it that I can do on a full-sized computer. Obviously, the small screen makes it a little less fun to browse the internet than on a full-sized computer, but everything works.

Finally, I've got to mention that the iPhone is fast. I never feel like I'm waiting for anything except possibly the camera (although it's still faster than any other camera phone I've used). Using this phone is a real pleasure. I've heard reviewers say that it takes up to 5 steps to make a call. (press button to unlock phone, slide to confirm, click to phone, scroll to contact, pick number) That's true, but it's still FASTER than using a regular handset because the five steps happen as fast as you can type. I'm easily frustrated, so a fast machine really makes using it a pleasure.
