I can't compare this phone to the V1 iPhone but it seems to be everything I expected it to be. I have multiple email accounts set up on it and it checks every one of them seamlessly. Sitting in my house, I only get 1 bar, and have even had it say no signal. I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and it shows a almost completely 3G covered island here. It could be all the cement and metal in the condo I live in.

I bought the 16GB, black one. There are a lot of fingerprints all over it but no more than my 16GB iPod Touch screen. I will be putting a screen protector on it which is supposed to cut down on the fingerprints on the screen. (Power Support Anti-Glare). I also bought the InCase Black Rubber protective case for it. (It fits well). I am looking for another case, perhaps even a "pouch" type but for now this works.

My main reason for purchasing the 3G wasn't exactly for the phone but more for the possibilities it will bring in the future. I'm certain with the Apps Store available, there will be some incredible apps to hit the market in the coming months. I think this will revolutionize the mobile market. I also should mention that the GPS works perfectly. I have a little blue dot right on my house in Google maps.(Not just at the end of my road).

My experience at the Apple store during launch was good. I was first in line of about 150 people and activating my phone was no problem. When the MobileMe site wasn't working, it was to be expected given the volume of new customers accessing it. The same goes for iTunes. Everything is working fine now and I am very happy with it.

Great cost-benefit!

I noticed the one individual leaving the iphone and going for the blackjack II and all I can say is bad move! I have the BJII and the iphone is better in every way... there is simply no comparison in terms of music, internet access, the software, the GPS (my BJII would tell me where I was within a 3-5 mile radius - very helpful as you may imagine) vs. the iphone that actually shows not only where I am, exactly, but also shows where I am going! The BJII is only comparable as a phone, but not in any other way. With the price being what it is I don't see why any sane individual would get anything other than an iphone for their next phone! I have also been very happy with the virtual keypad. It was my biggest worry in making the change from the BJII, but already on the first day I am very satisfied with the keyboard. Anyone want a BJII?

being an owner of the first iPhone I must say the 3g Is quite an upgrade. The app store is an awesome addition and with the 16 gig you should have plenty of space. Internet speeds are better buy definately nothing to be super excited about. My most favorite improvement has got to be the loudspeaker, at least two times louder and very clear. The iPhone 3g is worth every penny. Con: no new dock.

Very happy so far. Have not had the woes that some are experiencing. Lots of battery complaints on EIC but guys you must remember that 3g takes its toll on the battery. That aside from a few other issues some have had...MY EXPERIENCE over the last 12 hours has been bliss. Fast 3g at my house...not slow...FAST

Faster internet ...FAST

I realize edges 2g signal seems stronger to some. In my case its the opposite.

cheers

Honestly...Im in san diego and 3g is strong here.

Glad I got the white

I owned the original iPhone so 3G wasn't a huge upgrade - but it is definitely a good upgrade for my uses. I spend a ton of time on the web so the 3G is going to be used a whole lot, and I'm directionally challenged so the GPS is going to be used a lot too. The original iPhone has quasi-location abilities, but a lot of the time they could only get you within a couple miles in my area - which wasn't always helpful. Call quality by the way is much improved over the 3G network... crystal clear.

As for the color - really glad I got the white. After holding the black one for about 30 seconds it had smudge marks all over it - more than the screen if you can believe it. After reading about the light scratches in another review I'm really happy with my decision to go with the white.

Very nice phone, solid upgrade

I'm very impressed with the GPS functionality. With the supplement of a turn-by-turn direction app, it will be excellent.

The revised form-factor can be enjoyed after holding it for a short while.

The 3G speeds are a delight when now out of range of a WiFi. Pages that were painfully slow to load now take just a little longer than the expected WiFi experience.

I'm glad I was fortunate enough to pick the Apple line vs. the AT&T line that sold out early.

GPS is a nice addition to the first iPhone and I am looking forward to a turn by turn app!

The phone itself isnt too much different - improved audio for sure, screen is the same and it functions the same as the previous awesome product.

Wish the old aluminum back was on the new phone - Black shows fingerprints and already has some hairline scratches!!!!!

Just got my 3G.

Honestly, everything works as expected. Already tried GPS and works pretty good. The speaker IS louder. At the moment 3g speeds are not all that but I want to think it is because everyone is trying to use their 3G iPhone right now, I hope it gets better soon. I love my new iPhone 3G!

Just got my new 3G. Looks sweet, the back is shiny black, not as slippery as v.1, but it does show smudges! Speakerphone a little better with better sound quality (not as tinny). My screen is nicer then v.1. I'll post a picture of them side-by-side in the 3G forum. Still has the same crappy ringtones and wallpapers. 3G is so much better than EDGE! Wifi seemed to connect faster, too. App store is awesome!
