Prince Not A Fan Of iTunes, Internet

Prince, the legendary (and slightly crazy) pop artist, has had a very strange interview with The Mirror in the UK. In it, he explains that he’s refusing to release his new album digitally, because he is against the possibility of it being shared. He claims to have pulled all his songs from iTunes and YouTube, and shut down his website. How crazy is Prince? This is what he says:

“The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it. The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”

The kicker? There are at least 30 of his albums up for sale on iTunes.

Why is it that the more of a “musical genius” a person is, the stranger they are? Prince sounds like he’s missing a few teeth from his main gear. The internet is over? It’s literally still in it’s infancy. Why does someone have to be so bitter if they’ve been off the musical radar for a while?

  2. Jared Gibbs says:

Prince has never been off the musical radar neither critically nor commercially (really! Look it up!) however, the source of his ire may be his ignorance if how to actually be innovative in this age of the Internet

Yeah, Prince is a little wacky. Yeah, he’s also pretty far up the musical genius scale. He’s also been bitten by corporate legalese more than once – remember the long period when Prince wasn’t “Prince”? His identity was held captive, not once but twice by record labels.

If he wants to sell his music through traditional channels, that’s fine. It’s still possible to buy a cd and add it to iTunes.

But, the Internet is over? You heard it here first, people! Yeah, Prince is definitely still a little wacky.

This guy is a whack job. The only thing he will get by pulling his crappy music off the internet is even less sales to his already…well…crappy music.

Jimi Hendrix (1966-1970 live 100%. Not MTV or computer or auto tune), was the best music guitar and a God to the world and history. Ok. Prince came maybe 1976-77, and change his guitar/27 instruments by himself? Play better than Steve Vai? or Stanley Clarke? Jaco? Edd Van Halen? Play better? These real stars from the 1960s love Jimi like:The Beatles, The Who, Janis Joplin, The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, Bowie, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan etc… Then Jimi died……. Mmmmm? So music change from Jimi to Prince, become better, genius, new innovations etc..? Hell no! Jimi Hendrix really have changed the face of music on this planet forever. Jimi is a God. Prince is a prince period.
