We all knew it was in the works, and as of mid-September, word got official. Today, Ping is no more. It has ceased to be. It’s no longer in the current version of iTunes, and the upcoming total visual redesign of iTunes 11 will leave it completely forgotten.
There’s no avoiding it, Ping was all but useless. It was difficult to find friends on it, and the updates you saw were all pretty tedious.
Now, instead, you can expect boosted Twitter and Facebook integration. As previewed at the last Apple event, items purchased over the iTunes Store can be liked and shared over both of the social networks that people actually use.
Somehow, I don’t think anyone will miss it.
