The iPad 5 now has a parts leak to accommodate the rumored updates to the next generation iPad. 9to5mac has acquired a photo of what a China-based accessory maker is claiming is a prototype for the new design. The new shell follows what we have been hearing, that the fifth gen iPad would be akin to an iPad mini that was stretched to 9.7-inches.
As you’ll note from the images, this backplate follows the design of the newest iPod touch, iPhone 5 and iPad mini. If an actual part or prototype, the iPad 5 would see a radical slimming procedure, perhaps signifying a change in display technlogy.
Parts leaks have been increasingly more accurate when figuring out what’s coming next from Cupertino. There was a point when Apple had a handle on security, but the large scale of these products and eventual rollouts has made it near impossible for them to keep a lid on new products.
The iPad 5 was originally pegged for a possible March launch, but that appears unlikely, with some rumors suggesting a fall release. Other new products from Apple include an update to the iPhone 5 and a low-cost iPhone.
