Philips to Sell Wi Fi Controlled Hue Lightbulbs in Apple Stores

Remember how cool it was when Apple stores started carrying Nest, the thermostat that learned from your behavior? It looks like Apple will continue to be the home of awesomely smart housewares, as the new Philips Hue bulbs will be sold exclusively through Apple.

The Hue bulbs are multicolor LEDs that are controlled by a bridging device which attaches to your home wireless connection. You can then control the light and brightness from an iOS app, using either premixed settings, or crafting your own.

It’s an incredibly cool piece of technology, you can read a bit more about it here, and it’ll only be available through Apple — either online or at Apple Stores. If you’re keen, a starter set with three bulbs and the bridge will set you back $199, and then extra bulbs will be $59. While pricey, they’re expected to last 15,000 hours/15 years. I bet if you wait a year or two, the price will drop quite a bit (or else you’ll be able to pick them up on woot.com for a steal).
