The company VirnitX has filed suit against Apple, Cisco, NEC, and Aastra for a total of five patents — two specifically at Apple, and are looking for injunctions and damages. This same company went after Microsoft earlier this year and walked away with a cool $200 million.
Both of the patents leveled at Apple are on the topic of VPNs (virtual private network), one of which is the one that they hit Microsoft over too:
The patent cited in both lawsuits, titled “Agile network protocol for secure communications with assured system availability,” describes technologies for creating and managing a virtual private networking (VPN) connection.
VirnitX gets all their money from licensing and patents. Probability of a troll? 95%.
