Patent Shows Apple’s Plans for Bring Thunderbolt to iOS Devices

The USTPO today published three new patent applications from Apple that provide a number of interesting finds as it pertains to Apple’s Thunderbolt I/O technology and iOS devices. Bring Thunderbolt to the iPhone and other iOS devices would mean faster file transfers and faster recharging.

Patently Apple does an excellent job of breaking down the specifics of what is very technical information. The key bits of information that indicate Apple’s intention to bring Thunderbolt to iOS devices are these specific quotes.

“…the present invention, connection may also be a new type of connection. For example, “a connection may be provided between a portable media player and a display, a computer and a portable media player, or between other types of devices.”

They continue to provide clues to how this technology could provide for faster charging of an iOS device.

This higher voltage may provide an increased amount of power to the device, and it may allow for faster charging of a battery in, or associated with, the device.

These would be welcome improvements.
