Last month, we reported on an update of the official Twitter app for iPhone, one that promised new features. Typically, most iPhone users are all about updates that offer enhanced features, but not in this particular case. The update introduced the DickBar QuickBar, an annoying bar at the top of your tweets that was populated by trends, often which were promoted. Not only was it plagued by usability issues, but it also lacked any form of usefulness for most users. Raise of hands for of those who enjoy ads at the top of their timeline.
Thankfully, the good folks at Twitter have listened to the throngs of users who found fault with the QuickBar. In a mea culpa, the company explains the QuickBar as an experiment.
After testing a feature and evaluating its merits, if we learn it doesn’t improve the user experience or serve our mission, we’ll remove that feature.
Twitter let’s us know that an update will be available in the App Store today which removes the QuickBar. Let dancing in the streets commence.
