October 4th Apple Event To Be Held In Cupertino?

In years previous, Apple has announced the iPhones at the Yerba Buena center in downtown San Francisco, prompting a veritably orgy of excitement from tech journalists — but this year it looks like Apple might be casting their eyes a little closer to home. According to AllThingsD — who appear to have an increasingly close relationship with Apple — this year the even will be held on site at the Apple Campus in Cupertino, California.

Why? That’s not entirely clear. Perhaps the release date was too much of a moving target to risk booking a large space like Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA), which has hosted a number of big product unveils in the past. Perhaps, the company felt a more intimate venue was best for newly installed CEO Tim Cook’s first media event. Perhaps YBCA was simply already booked. Whatever the reason, the world will get it’s first look at the next iPhone at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in early October.

This would mark a major depart from the way that the previous announcements have been done, but given how atypical the iPhone 5 buildup has been, and the strange time of year, at this point not much would surprise me. And maybe now the journalists there will actually be able to stay online without totally collapsing the network.
