NYT Gets Popular RSS App Pulled From App Store *UPDATE: It’s back

Pulse News Reader was a popular RSS app for the iPad, one that garnered widespread acclaim for its usability, and was even mentioned during Jobs’ WWDC keynote. Then, last night, the app disappeared off the app store. So, what happened? The NYT.

Since Pulse pulled content from RSS feeds – including the New York Times’ — and is a paid app, the NYT screamed “copyright infringement” and got the app pulled. Funnily enough, the Times praised the app just a week ago. That’s right, they threw a fit over an app that gathers together publicly available feeds, and since the NYT only puts a headline and a sentence or two in their RSS, it would just direct more traffic their way for people who wanted more.

The creators are attempting to get the app back up, but we’ll see what happens.

UPDATE: It appears someone at either Apple or NY Times came to their senses and we’re pleased to report that Pulse (App Store link) is now available again on the App Store.
