Apple Working On Cut and Paste?January 24, 2008
By: Christopher Meinck
Despite MacWorld bringing a host of new features in iPhone software update 1.1.3, cut and paste continues to be among the most demanded improvements among our iPhone owners in our forums. According to SvenOnTech, Apple is working on a solution. After speaking to a littany of Apple employees, Sven was able to get an answer. While certainly not an official statement from Cupertino, the employee indicated that Apple is aware of the desire for this option and it is working on it in the labs as we speak. They appear to be having issues with the implementation of cut and paste on the iPhone. Apple would like to add the feature, but they want to keep it as simple as possible. The employee went on to say that no further details were available other than Apple is working on a solution and no timetable for release had been set. Source: SvenOnTech Trackback(0)

You have nailed this issue head on. Receiving MMS w/o cut and paste drives me crazy! I don't even try to view them on my iPhone. I end up responding to these messages hours, sometimes days later. People must think I'm crazy. Fortunately my friend who sends me pictures all the time, just got an iPhone.

Cut and Paste is an important feature. Sheesh, Apple had it working on the Newton. Just important is a better way to delete mail. It is a pain to have to move mail to trash then out of trash, each message individually.
So in my vote necessary 1 & 2 are cut and past and bulk delete mail. Third is making the contents capabilities more of a star of the phone, not a back seat capability of the phone. Mark written by paidinfullfilmz, January 26, 2008
i couldn't agree with you more alex!! answering sms, and even shooting video on your phone is basic on the simplest cell phone. cut and paste... well geeze all smartphones have it!
jobs wanted a smartphone that superseeded anything on the market. granted when it comes to internet browsing, a working touch screen, and ipod he was ground breaking. but to leave out the basics any other phone has.... is just careless. i wonder if the idea guys were just out to lunch that day. written by CoreyG, January 26, 2008
Cut N paste? fine, I'd like it, but I would much rather have the landscape keyboard for text messages and note taking. This kills me because it's already in the phone for the internet - Why the delay? I know many who won't buy the phone for this reason alone.

I'd like to see AIM too or iChat as apple calls it ... I hate that the sidekick has it and this is such a better phone then the SK. It is so dumb that regular phones have AIM..... MMS and COPY PASTE TOO.... I have been tempted several times to get a SK and. iPod touch but I dont want to... Apple fix this .... I remeber in the keynote (2007) when this phone was introduced it was pictured next to BB, TREO, and other smartphones ... I love my iPhone but it is not better the those phones ... It is howevera better video and music players then those phones ... Pick it up apple !!!!

Iphone would've been better phone with cut and paste and search functions. Search function on iphone is undeveloped. Try to forget someone in your phonebook. Takes you forever find that pearson's infor. WISH ONE DAY APPLE WOULD RESOLVE THAT.

highlighting text should be solved by pressing down and dragging your finger left and right. then use the volume buttons on the left side of the phone to copy and paste. up lifts the text and down pastes it. or just put cut copy and paste button functionality on the keyboard.
then give me a native directory structure so I can use the device as a drive. written by Carlos A, February 13, 2008
I'm happy to hear these problems are being worked on and I don't know about you but at least we aren't stuck with a phone that lacks functions. No, we are able to download updates when they become ready. One thing I can't wait to see besides the basics, mms, video camera, or in this case cut and paste, is the ability to view flash files which many of you know should come out this month (SDK). I think what makes the cut and paste feature hard to add is the fact that the whole screen moves when you touch and try to drag something. One option I feel may work would be by pressing and holding down on text to activate a pop up menu like the keyboard which would include arrows to pin point the starting and ending points of the text you want to highlight. Also inluded would be a command button such as the shift button on a PC to activate and deactivate highlights. The copy button would also be included. This pop up menu would also appear on the keyboard as a tab to copy/paste text you write as well. Basically what I'm trying to get at is that this function is possible.

MMS is a basic feature on phones. Cut & Paste is a basic feature on computing platforms. GIVE US THESE FIRST.
