Apple Patents Swipe Gestures for iPhone Keyboard
Written by Christopher Meinck

A new Apple patent application called Swipe Gestures for Touch Screen Keyboards was revealed yesterday. The author Way Westerman is the former founder of Fingerworks and the patent reveals gestures on the iPhone keyboard that could prove to be very useful. It looks as if Apple would like to add gestures to the iPhone keyboard offering easier access to common keys. For example, a two fingered downward swipe would indicate "Return", while a two fingered swipe right would be "backspace" or "delete".

Apple's new line of notebooks makes use of multi-touch gestures and these patents suggest Apple will move in this direction with future software updates to the iPhone OS.
