Apple Introduces iPod Touch Application Suite

January 15, 2008
By: Christopher Meinck

Steve Jobs has announced the release of an iPod Touch application suite priced at $19.99 that will bring many of the iPhone applications to the iPod Touch.

iPod Touch owners who purchase the update will now have the following applications, previously only available on the iPhone.

  • Mail
  • Stocks
  • Notes
  • Weather
  • Maps

This software update will be available for existing iPod Touch owners. New shipments will reportedly include the new applications. It's certainly too early to tell, but this decision to charge for applications could cause some disgruntled early adopters. In September at the last MacWorld, Apple's decision to reduce the price of the iPhone to $399 caused significant backlash from Apple's customers. Apple responded by offering a $100 credit to all iPhone owners who had purchased prior to the price decrease. You can discuss the new software update in our iPod Touch forums.
