Apple today has introduced the iPhone Enterprise Beta Program, allowing companies to "test drive" iPhone 2.0 software offering a bevy of enterprise features.

iPhone Enterprise Features

Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller outlined the most important features as requested by enterprise clients and indicated Apple would be "doing all of these things with the next release of the iPhone software."

  • Push email
  • Push calendar
  • Push contacts
  • Global address list
  • Cisco IPsec VPN
  • Certificates and Identitites
  • WPA2/802.1x
  • Enforced Security Policies
  • Device Configuration
  • Remote Wipe

Apple has licensed the ActiveSync protocol from Microsoft to build directly into the iPhone, so that it can work directly with corporate exchange servers. Microsoft has worked with ActiveSync to create a more reliable, more affordable and direct way for the iPhone to interact with the Exchange server. iPhone 2.0 software is expected to be released in June of 2008. Apple is currently accepting applications for the iPhone Enterprise Beta program.
