Apple's App Store has seen sales of about $30 million in the past month, with over 60 million programs downloaded during that same time frame.
Apple averaged $1 million dollars a day in sales over the month. This information comes from Steve Jobs who was interviewed by the Wall St. Journal over the weekend. If sales remain at this pace, Apple will see sales of $360 million this year alone. "This thing's going to crest a half a billion, soon," he added. "Who knows, maybe it will be a $1 billion marketplace at some point in time."
"I've never seen anything like this in my career for software," he said.
While Apple only retains 30% of the proceeds from application sales, Jobs feels it is software that will drive more iPhone and iPod touch sales. "Phone differentiation used to be about radios and antennas and things like that," Mr. Jobs said. "We think, going forward, the phone of the future will be differentiated by software."
