Adobe Emulating Flash for iPhoneBy: Christopher MeinckJune 17, 2008
Adobe has Flash working on an emulation, but it doesn't appear as if Flash will find it's way to the iPhone anytime soon. During a conference call to discuss Adobe's second quarter fiscal results, CEO Shantanu Narayen was asked about the 3G iPhone and whether Flash will be on the device. "With respect to the iPhone, we are working on it. We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date. Apple has been reluctant to commit to Flash and specifically being locked into browser plug-ins for one particular standard. Apple has recently entered into a relationship with open source SproutCore (a framework for building applications in JavaScript with remarkably little amounts of code) for their MobileMe service, enabling a more rich web experience. What appears to be a standoff between Apple and Adobe over Flash for the iPhone continues. For a preview of what MobileMe might look like, check out the demos at SproutCore. via ZDNet
