Apple has released an update to iTunes, available for download directly from Apple or via Software Update.

iTunes updates to 7.7

The latest version of iTunes version 7.7 is a must upgrade for all iPhone owners, since it is required for the upcoming iPhone App Store that will launch tonight. Applications for the iPhone have already started appearing within the current version of iTunes, but users are prompted to download 7.7 in order to download. Combined with iPhone Software Update 2.0, which is forthcoming, the iPhone App Store will enable owners to add third party applications to their iPhone. If you are an existing iPhone owner or plan on purchasing the iPhone 3G, iTunes 7.7 is required.

The update also features a new Remote application for iPhone and iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home.

iTunes 7.7 is a free download and it's a must update for both existing and new iPhone owners.
