George Hotz, who gained notoriety when he unlocked the original iPhone, has released a jailbreaking application for the iPhone named purplera1n. For now, it's Windows only (Windows 7 not supported). The jailbreak requires the latest version of iTunes and an iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.0.
Hotz is working on a Mac version that he promises is "coming soon". Directions for the jailbreak are sparse, but perhaps that's a good thing. Connect your iPhone normally. Click “make it ra1n”. Wait. On bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app. Have success? Let us know in the comments or in our iPhone forums. [via TechCrunch] |
