Two Versions of iPhone Coming

It's not quite clear, but could we actually see the release of two different iPhones come January.

If the rumors pan out, it appears that Apple will release two versions of the iPhone that will be different in function. The first would be a RAZR type iPhone that would have limited smartphone capabilities. The Motorola RAZR is incredibly popular and Apple could look to create a ROKR-type iPhone that would mimic the flip-lid style of the RAZR, but also bring iPod capabilities to the phone. It would be in Apple's best interest if this iPhone supports removable media allowing owners to expand beyond the 100 song capability of the ROKR.

The second in the iPhone product line would be the smartphone product that would compete with the likes of the Palm Treo and Motorola Q. Apple already has iSync, iCal and Address book on the desktop, but they must figure out a way to make these apps compatible with the PC. One of the reasons the iPod has been so successful is that it's completely cross-platform compatible. When you walk into an Apple Store, there is no difference when you pick up a 30GB iPod off the shelf. For the iPod Phone to be a runaway success, it too will need the simplicity and integration on both Mac and PC platforms.
