The patent asks to protect the use of zirconia in various handheld devices. zirconia apparently helps with the transmission of radio freqency signals in cellphones. According to Apple's patent, zirconia is strong enough to protect the internal components but wireless signals can easily pass through.
The new iPhone could resemble the iPod Nano or iPod mini and diagrams from the patent support this theory.
