It appears that Apple's latest release of the iPhone SDK calls the SGOLD3 chip set, yet another sign that a next generation 3G iPhone could be released in the coming months.
The code was spotted by the developers of ZiPhone who have posted a screenshot. The current iPhone utilizes the Infineon S-Gold 2. While the S-Gold 3 doesn't directly support 3G, it is configurable with a UMTS co-processor allowing for access to faster 3G data networks. The S-Gold 3 supports "performance-greedy applications such as video telephony and 3D graphics without additonal hardware". The new 3G iPhone could see improvements in the camera, with the S-Gold 3 offering support for up to 5 megapixels.
