According to a report released yesterday from security firm Independent Security Evaluators, the iPhone along with Apple desktop computers may be vulnerable to hackers due to a flaw in the Safari web browser.
The Baltimore based firm tests their clients computer security by hacking it. On Monday they confirmed that three employees found a way to take control of iPhones through a WiFi link or by "tricking" users into going to a particular website. "The same problem actually exists on Apple's desktops", said Charles Miller, principal security analyst at the firm. He added that his firm had only written the code necessary to hack into the iPhone. " It turns out that on the iPhone there are probably some basic things they could have done that would have made it better," said Miller. Miller believes that if Apple had limited the links between iPhone applications and the Safari browser, they could have avoided the risk.
"We're looking into the report submitted by (Integrated Security Evaluators) and we always welcome feedback on how to improve our security," Apple spokeswoman Lynn Fox said.
